Groups FAQs

What is a Growth Group?
A Growth Group is a small group of couples or individuals from the same station in life that meet in homes during the week to belong in healthy relationships with others and to become more like Christ.

What is a Connection Group?
A Connection Group is a small group of couples or individuals from the same station in life that meet on our Worship Campus for 4 weeks to connect with a new group.  Everyone is new so it is a great time to meet new people and start developing lasting friendships.

Why should I join a Small Group?
We believe that you can only move so far on your spiritually journey without others.  Being in a group will help you develop lasting friendships that will push you further faster on your spiritual journey.  Also, groups are just a great place to make friends and realize you are not alone in whatever you are going through.  Groups celebrate successes and help each other through the tough times.

Do I have to be a member of Mountain Lake Church to join a Small Group?
No way.  Groups are for everyone and anyone at Mountain Lake.

What happens at a Small Group meeting?
You show up and eat some snacks and hang out for about 20 minutes.  After that we move to our Message Based Curriculum time for about 40 minutes.  That means that we talk about the message from Sunday in a creative way.  It allows everyone to have the opportunity to ask questions about things they didn’t understand.  Also, the discussion is highly practical to your life.  Notice we said discussion.  Our leaders facilitate conversation, they do not preach!  It isn’t a bunch of theological jargon that only a few can understand.  It is for everyone at every point in their journey.  Then the groups move into a time of prayer!  Then they hang out for a little while and go home.

Where do the small groups meet?
They meet all over our area in host homes.  You can usually find a group within 5-10 minutes of your house.

Is there childcare available?
It depends on the group.  Most groups have childcare.  The group finds its own place to house the children.  A childcare worker or two usually take care of the little ones during the group time.

What if I don't like the first group I try?
Try another one!  We understand that every person is not going to click the first night, so we ask that you hang in your group for at least 5 weeks.  Usually after 5 weeks of consistently attending groups will gel, but by all means if you want to try a new group just let us know.

Can I start my own group?
We are always looking for new leaders and host.  We would love to get your information and talk with you about starting a group at some point.  We have strategic times in the year when we launch a lot of groups so just fill out our leader application and we will contact you.

How do I get into a group?
Connection Group Sign-Up cards are at the Growth Group table in our lobby, so stop by there and just fill out a card and we will get in touch with you.  Also you can sign up online just click on the Connection Group Registration link and we will contact you about our next set of Connection Groups.  Another way is just to ask a friend if you can go with them to their group.  You are welcome at anytime to any of our groups.
